On distribution projects, cable is the most valuable item in the store and the most easily damaged. Yet on many sites it is paid out improvised: a drum on timber blocks, a forklift carrying the drum, or a rope pull behind a pickup. The consequence appears later — insulation damage, over-tension, or rejection at inspection.
What a purpose-built trailer does
- Lifts the drum itself: hydraulic arms take the drum on its axle without a crane or assisting machine.
- Hauls it: the drum stays suspended on the axle while moving between pulling points.
- Controls pay-out: a braking system stops the drum free-wheeling, keeping cable tension within limits and off the ground.
The third point matters most. A free-wheeling drum pays out more cable than needed and it kinks; an over-braked drum exceeds the conductor's permitted pulling tension.
The specification power projects ask for
- Independent hydraulic unit with its own engine — so the trailer works away from the towing vehicle or behind a pickup with no hydraulic supply.
- Lifting arms rated for the heaviest drum on the project (full drum weight, not empty).
- Adjustable braking to control pay-out speed.
- Dust-protected control panel — Saudi site conditions are hard on exposed panels.
- LED lighting and a rotating beacon for night and roadside work.
- Mounted fire extinguisher and an adjustable front support jack.
- Towing provision behind a pickup or truck with a standard coupling and appropriate brakes.
Local content
On government and semi-government projects, local content is a genuine evaluation criterion. A trailer built inside the Kingdom counts in your favour, and it also means spares and modifications happen in the same workshop within days rather than months.

Work out how many days your crew currently spends paying out cable, and how often pulls stalled or cable was damaged last year. On many projects the labour days saved go a long way towards covering the difference — how far depends on your drum sizes and pull frequency.
